I found it nearly impossible to listen to any music at all for about a decade because of the intensity it stirred up in me but now I'm constantly attached to my headphones... yet even now I just remember the feeling of songs and not the lyrics. Some people remember all the lyrics and I marvel at them.

As someone who writes along to the sound of silence, I have nothing to add. To me, music is a distraction and I get sidetracked enough with Google rabbit holes, solitaire, and looking up words to make sure they mean what I think they mean.
'Silence is golden' You're fortunate to be able to achieve that state. Does being distracted even include playing music without any lyrical content, as with the last curated playlist I mentioned in the post?
